However, be sure to plan a few days in Chattanooga to fully experience all it has to offer. Although not far from the Smoky Mountains, Chattanooga is just a few hours’ drive away, providing beautiful views and unforgettable adventures.

TIP #1: Stay in Chattanooga Downtown District

Firstly, staying downtown in one of the hotels in Chattanooga puts you right in the heart of the action, near the Chattanooga Aquarium and other attractions. Secondly, being in the downtown district offers the advantage of being close to everything, making it convenient to explore on foot and enjoy great food options. Also, with its walkable area, you can easily stroll around and take in all the attractions in “The Scenic City” exploring the best of Chattanooga throughout your day.

TIP #2:Book Your Stay at The Edwin Hotel

We stayed at The Edwin Hotel, and we highly recommend it. After valet parking the car, we found that was all we needed—we walked everywhere! Firstly, The Edwin Hotel is absolutely beautiful. Additionally, I would describe it as where southern hospitality meets urban luxury. Secondly, centrally located, it’s close to everything, including being right at the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge and the Tennessee Aquarium. Plus, an added perk is that you can end your day by enjoying the rooftop bar, Whiskey Thief Chattanooga, where you can soak in the views and savor a relaxing cocktail.

TIP #3: Purchase Timed Entry Tickets For Tennessee Aquarium

Purchasing our tickets in advance was a great decision as we mapped out our day in Chattanooga. Being able to choose our entry time helped us plan our morning smoothly. The tickets we purchased included entry to both the River Journey and Ocean Journey exhibits at the aquarium, which gave us plenty to explore. Although we didn’t have the chance to visit the IMAX theater, it’s worth noting that combined entry tickets for the aquarium and IMAX are available for purchase as well.

Our visit to the Tennessee Aquarium was a highlight of our visit to Chattanooga. The aquatic tanks were breathtaking, especially the jellyfish exhibit, which was my personal favorite. In a darkened room, the jellyfish glowed, making it mesmerizing. From sharks to penguins, the Ocean Journey offered a lot to see, making it incredibly fun and unforgettable for us. Also, don’t miss the River Journey exhibit, where you can encounter frogs, alligators, and other fascinating river creatures!

TIP # 4: Visit The Hunter Museum of American Art

Without a doubt, visiting the Hunter Museum of American Art was the highlight of our trip to Chattanooga. Taking your time to explore is a must—it’s definitely worth it to see everything there. I was especially impressed by the “Networked Nature” exhibit, which showcases digital art, some created by AI! It was definitely a new experience for me, and I found it intriguing. The museum offers so much to see, from permanent collections to traveling exhibits. It’s a fantastic place to learn about diverse cultures through art. Plus, it’s incredible how looking at art can transport you through time, offering glimpses into American history over the years. We ended up spending hours there, and let me tell you, it’s a truly captivating experience!

TIP #5: Explore Chattanooga Bluff View Art District

The Bluff View Art District is such a cozy place, with its charming cobblestone paths and fantastic views, making it just perfect for a relaxed visit. Besides offering stunning vistas high on cliffs overlooking the Tennessee River, it’s absolutely beautiful. As you wander, you’ll find art-lined pathways, cute little shops, and delicious eateries. Also, our first stop was Rembrandt Coffee House, where they serve up light bites alongside their delicious brews. And let me tell you about our first night in Chattanooga – we headed to Tony’s Pasta Shop & Trattoria, and wow, my pasta was amazing! Their bread dipped in oil and Parmesan was simply heavenly.

Consider staying right in the Bluff View District at the Bluff View Inn Bed and Breakfast, perfect for a night in Chattanooga. Nestled in the heart of the district, it offers cozy accommodations and easy access to all the area’s attractions. Plus, waking up to the charming surroundings of the Bluff View Art District is an experience you won’t soon forget.

TIP #6: Taste Chattanooga: Downtown Food Tour Brunch Tour

TIP #8: Discover One of the World’s Longest Pedestrian Bridges: The Walnut Street Bridge

Take a stroll, a jog, or even bike across one of the world’s longest pedestrian bridges, the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge. The views from this bridge are amazing. Besides connecting the downtown area to the north side, it offers breathtaking vistas. We enjoyed shopping on the north side at all of the quaint shops. Additionally, there are places to eat on the North Side where you can grab an ice cream or enjoy lunch and a beer.

Renting a Segway to explore the Walnut Street Bridge and other landmarks in Chattanooga, like the Riverwalk. Additionally, it’s a fun way to spend the day learning about the area. So, why not roll your way across the bridge? The Walnut Street Bridge is definitely worth seeing!

TIP #9: Experience Downtown Charm: Horse and Carriage Tour

Experience downtown Chattanooga in a whole new way with a private horse and carriage ride. As you meander through the streets via carriage, you’ll pass by several historical landmarks. Also, the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, built in 1908, stands as a historic landmark in the heart of the city. Your guide and driver will be accompanied by a furry four-legged friend, their dog, who will be your co-pilot for the journey. Basically, get ready to feel like you’ve stepped back in time as you ride in the carriage. This tour is perfect for learning about the history of Chattanooga. The carriage ride begins at the circle in front of the Chattanooga Aquarium.

TIP #10: Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at the Cupcake Kitchen

And last but certainly not least, you’ve got to swing by the Cupcake Kitchen, located on Market Street in downtown Chattanooga. Then go ahead and treat yourself to one of their amazing cupcakes. Plus, The Cupcake Kitchen menu is extensive, featuring everything from Oreo cupcakes to pineapple upside-down cupcakes and tiramisu cupcakes, with almost any flavor you can imagine in between. You’ll be glad you stopped by to satisfy your sweet tooth. Additionally, The Cupcake Kitchen whips up these cupcakes in-house daily, using only the freshest ingredients. With that in mind, I have no doubt you’ll find a flavor to tickle your fancy. So, go ahead, plan on indulging in a cupcake or two.
